Marriott has launched a sale at 14 of its properties across Latin American & the Caribbean with discounts of up to 35% available. The hotelier is claiming that these are “the largest discounts ever offered across the collection of resorts” and, after having looked at some of the nightly rates, it does look like there may be some good deals out there.

Some Of The Deals Are Better Than Advertised
I selected a random week in November at the Aruba Marriott and found that, although the promotion claims the maximum discount is 25%, if Marriott’s pricing can be trusted you can do better than advertised.
In the screenshot above Marriott is showing the non-member discounted rate at $199/night and the member discounted rate at $189/night (nothing unusual there)…but Marriott is also showing the non-discounted rate as $269 which would make the member discount 30% (5% higher than the advertised maximum).
The Better Deals
The JW Marriott in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) gets some truly excellent TripAdvisor reviews….
……and, while I’m more than aware that you can’t always trust the integrity of all the reviews on TripAdvisor, I still think it’s a reasonable barometer to use when trying to figure out which resorts are worth trying out.
Based on those reviews it’s hard to argue with some of the rates you can find in this promotion:
Yes, there is limited availability, but $159/night for a two night stay is excellent value at a property that’s this highly rated.
If you want to stretch to 3 nights and get away from the winter cold the rates aren’t bad either:
The are other pretty goo deals out there too – here are some that I’ve seen:
- Aruba Marriott from $180/night
- JW Marriott Cancun from $175/night
And there are probably plenty more where those came from.
Bottom Line
There are some very nice deals to be had if you look carefully but be sure to compare the promotional rates to the hotel’s regular rates outside of the promotion – it’s only a good deal if you’re getting a genuine discount.
My favorite in this promotion (in case you hadn’t guessed!) is the JW in Santo Domingo but the Aruba rates for escapes in October, November and December are pretty good for a destination that’s popular at that time of year so they’re definitely worth checking out too.
