Starwood released details of an incredibly bad Cyber Sale earlier on today (I wrote about it here) and while you should probably be giving that non-event a wide berth, there is another Starwood deal you should be looking into.
I fly around quite a bit and that means that sometimes I’m a bit late with the news or sometimes I may miss a small offer completely (airlines that don’t offer wi-fi don’t help here!)….but I have no idea how I missed this offer which appears to have been running for a while.
American Express and Starwood are offering guests 40% off every second night for stays through 31 January 2018.

Naturally there are some terms and conditions that go along with this so here are the main points:
- Offer valid at participating SPG Hotels & Resorts when you book and stay between October 1, 2017 and January 31, 2018 and pay with any American Express Credit or Charge Card.
- Fulfilment of the offer is the sole responsibility of the participating American Express merchant.
- Offer is valid only at participating properties. These can be found here.
- Offer excludes Design Hotels.
- Reservations must be booked online through this offer or through a Starwood Customer Contact Center. If making a reservation through a Customer Contact Center, callers must mention promotion codes P4B and P4C. For Contact Center numbers worldwide please visit: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/contact
- A minimum stay of two (2) consecutive eligible nights is required at hotels while the minimum night requirement will vary at resorts.
- Offer is for 40% off the best available unrestricted retail rate of every second eligible night.
- Free night awards cannot be redeemed for first night stay.

Things To Note
The 40% discount is applicable to the best available unrestricted rate so you’re not getting 40% off the cheapest rate you’ll find….but this should still be a substantial saving.
Although you’re getting 40% off an unrestricted rate (i.e. flexible rate) the booking you would be making is not flexible and requires you to pay in advance.
The main stipulation appears to be that you have to pay with an Amex card…but it can be any Amex card so you’re the promotion is not limited to the SPG co-branded Amex. That’s good news if you don’t happen to have one of those cards.

Thoughts
It’s disappointing not to see Asia and Australia participating in this promotion but, on the whole, there are a lot of SPG properties to choose from so there should be quite a few people who can make the most of this.
Even though the discount is based on the best flexible rate the fact that it’s as high as 40% should still make this a very worthwhile promotion for those looking to travel before 31 January.
