British Airways has brought back a promotion it ran last year which allows kids to fly free of charge on select domestic routes. In 2017 British Airways added Bilund (the home of LEGO) to the list of routes included in this offer but, this year, that’s no longer an option.

British Airways Kids Go Free Promotion

The rules of the “kids go free” promotion are simple – for every paying adult (flying on a valid route) two children under the age of 12 can fly for free.

Here are the terms and conditions:

  • Kids fly free applies to children who are under 12 at the start of the journey
  • Kids must be accompanied by an adult, and up to two kids can fly for free with each fare paying adult
  • The offer runs from June 1, 2018 to November 5, 2018.
  • All seats are subject to availability
  • The offer is valid on one-way and return tickets from London Heathrow (LHR) to/from Leeds Bradford (LBA), Newcastle (NCL), Edinburgh (EDI), Aberdeen (ABZ), Belfast (BHD) and Glasgow (GLA).
  • Flights must be booked by 23:59 on 13 May 2018
  • Travel must be taken between June 1, 2018 and November 5, 2018.

The promotion started later in the year last year (May) and was slightly more generous in that all bookings through 30 September qualified for free kids tickets.

Still, adults booking Basic Economy (hand baggage only) fares qualify for this promotion and its valid for the summer and fall school breaks so this should offer some decent savings for families looking go on vacation later this year.

It’s worth noting that British Airways has set up a dedicated family check-in area in Zone A of Heathrow T5 and a ‘parent and child” security lane has also been set up.

I’m not sure if the new security lane is there to speed things up for parents or if it’s there to keep hoards of kids out of the other security lanes but, either way, it’s a nice addition from BA.
