British Airways has launched a new sale which covers just about everything the airline offers. City-breaks, long-haul flights, short-haul flights and luxury holidays are all discounted and, while not all the offers are particularly tempting, there are a few things that are worth a closer look.

The British Airways Sale

There’s only one major rule you need to remember about the sale and that’s that it runs to 23:59 GMT on 30 January 2018.

Thoughts On Economy Class

Long Haul

The fares to Abu Dhabi and Muscat look good and Boston for £300 isn’t too bad either (as long as you can make the dates work) but nothing else is really leaping out at me as being an amazing deal. The West Coast of the US for a little over £400 isn’t too bad but I’ve seen prices that low outside of sales too so they’re nothing to get excited about.

Short Haul

There are some pretty impressive looking fares in this collection and the fact that you can fly very cheaply to/from a number of cities from which, more often than not , Qatar Airlines offers great Business Class fares will be good news to quite a few readers.

Flights to Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo and Copenhagen are keenly priced and, as long as the dates work, these fares should save you some avios if you need to book positioning flights.

Larnaca for £52 each way is pretty good (although not spectacular) and there are any number of beautiful European cities to which you can get now book roundtrip travel for under £80.

Thoughts On Business Class

Long-Haul

As someone who almost always positions into Europe to book cheap Business Class fares I’m probably not the person to try to sell you on any of these fares. I’m booked to fly to Bangkok and Singapore next year for significantly less than any of the Business Class fares BA is currently promoting (admittedly I’m flying via Doha) and on a better carrier too so I’m not going to tell you these are good deals.

Still, if you don’t like to position into Europe and prefer to fly direct then the fares to Abu Dhabi, Nashville and Kingston don’t look too bad.

Short-Haul

a collage of different buildings

As with the short-haul economy class fares there’s quite a lot of value to be had here….just not from the product itself.

The British Airways short-haul Business Class product has very little going for it (as I discussed here) but, if you’re looking for tier points, there can be some great deals for you here.

Most roundtrip fares will earn you 80 Tier points and the destinations I’ve highlighted with a double asterisk (**) will offer a fantastic 160 Tier points so, with that in mind, £114 roundtrip to Nuremberg for 80 Tier points looks like great value as is £216 round trip to Catania for 160 tier points.

A Promotion That Catches The Eye

a person's face with textBritish Airways First Class is best described as a very good Business Class product so it’s rarely worth what the airline charges for it. But, considering how woeful Club World (Business Class) can be, paying a small premium to sit right up front should be well worth the expenditure.

a seat in a plane

Here are some of the better First Class deals on offer (all fares are for roundtrip travel):

  • Abu Dhabi – from £1,649
  • Boston – from £1,789
  • Chicago – from £1,898
  • Miami – from £2,159
  • Muscat – from £1,593
  • Nashville – from £1,873
  • New York – from £1,786
  • Philadelphia – from £1,789
  • San Diego – from £2,168
  • San Francisco – from £2,289
  • Shanghai – from £2,2,93
  • Toronto – from £1,810
  • Washington DC – from £1,839

All of these are far better deals than the corresponding Business Class fares and, in my opinion, well worth the extra outlay – the, seat and service will be far better and you’ll earn a bucket-load of Tier points and  Avios into the bargain.

Bottom Line

The First Class and short-haul deals (both Business and Economy) are the ones that look best to me. Yes, a few of the Business Class fares are ok if you have to fly non-stop and don’t wish to start your journey in continental Europe but I can’t get excited about the Club World product so I’ll just leave that there 🙂
