British Airways will be moving all of its Gatwick operations to the airport’s South Terminal from 25 January 2017 but, before that happens, the airline is testing their new facilities with a few select flights that are making the move ahead of all of the rest.

I gave a brief mention to one of the BA Gatwick “test flights” in a post in November but, while that flight was only to Jersey and unlikely to affect too many people, one of the latest two flights to be moved to the South Terminal ahead time is a pretty major one.

Early Flight Moves To Gatwick South Terminal

From 11 January 2017 British Airways’ non-stop service between Gatwick and New York (JFK) will depart and arrive from the South Terminal.

This is the current schedule for the service:

BA2273 LGW 17:00 – 19:50 JFK (Daily)
BA2272 JFK 22:00 – 10:00+1 day LGW (Daily)

BA2273 on 11 January will depart the South Terminal while BA2272, departing New York on 11 January and arriving into Gatwick on 12 January, will be the first inbound flight to arrive at the South Terminal.

Another route which will see its flights moved to the South Terminal ahead of the big terminal switch will be the Gatwick – Naples route.

From 19 January 2017 British Airways’ non-stop service between Gatwick and Naples will depart and arrive from the South Terminal.

This is the current schedule for the service:

BA2612 LGW 14:30 – 18:15 NAP (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sun)
BA2613 NAP 19:00 – 20:50 LGW (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sun)

Please be aware that British Airways is almost certainly moving a few other flights to the South Terminal early so be sure to check BA.com before you leave for the airport if you have any flights to/from Gatwick between now and 25 January 2017.

Increased Baggage Allowance To/From Doha

With effect from 1 December 2016 British Airways is increasing the World Traveller (Economy Class) baggage allowance from 23kg to 32kg.

There is no change to the number of pieces of luggage that passengers can check free of charge – it’s just the weight restriction that has been made more generous.

Don’t expect to see this new allowance in “manage my booking” on the British Airways website as travel agents have been told that the change will not appear there:

The increase from 23kg to 32kg will not appear in the PNR or in Manage My Booking – the airports will manage this by applying a heavy bag charge waiver when the customer checks in

Note that this rule change applies to London – Doha (and back) journeys only and normal baggage rules will apply for transfer and interline journeys.

Note: Qatar Airways is running a Business Class sale from the UK to Doha and numerous other cities until 8 December 2016.
