Calling All UK Marriott Rewards Members…..

TravelingForMiles.com may receive commission from card issuers. Some or all of the card offers that appear on TravelingForMiles.com are from advertisers and may impact how and where card products appear on the site. TravelingForMiles.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers.

Some links to products and travel providers on this website will earn Traveling For Miles a commission which helps contribute to the running of the site – I’m very grateful to anyone who uses these links but their use is entirely optional. The compensation does not impact how and where products appear on this site and does not impact reviews that are published.

American Airlines has announced a very nice promotion whereby travelers can earn 20% more miles when they convert their Marriott Rewards points to AAdvantage miles and it was while I was researching that promotion that I noticed something a little odd. I tend to use the US Marriott Rewards website so my knowledge of the UK website is limited….and that’s why I’m hoping to enlist the help of any UK readers who have used Marriott’s UK website to check out the Flight & Hotel packages recently.

This is what I’ve noticed:

When you take a look at the Flights & Hotel packages on the US version of Marriott’s website all looks well and American Airlines clearly listed as a Marriott Rewards transfer partner:

But when you access the Flights and Hotel page on the UK site there’s no mention of American Airlines at all:

So here’s my question: has anyone else noticed this and, if so, how long has this discrepancy (error?) been there?

This may not seem like a big deal – and it most probably isn’t – but there’s a precedent for rewards programs accidentally updating a non-US website with an unannounced “enhancement” before the program is ready to let its members know what’s going on.

American Airlines is the best example of this when it updated a number of its non-US websites with information showing reduced earning rates on British Airways. The airline denied the change was coming and quickly pulled the information from the offending sites….and then promptly implemented those very changes two months later.

So, what I’m trying to establish is if this is just an omission that’s been overlooked for months (possibly years) or if this is something new which, perhaps, we’re not yet meant to know about.

I’ll admit that it would be a bit strange to remove American Airlines as a transfer partner when (a) Marriott doesn’t appear too selective when it comes to picking airline partners and (b) when there’s a 20% transfer bonus to American right now….but stranger things have happened.
