Club Carlson has launched what it’s calling a “Dream Deals” promotion in which members can save up to 30% on Carlson properties around the world and top up their accounts with membership points too.

Club Carlson Dream Deals

Club Carlson members have advance notice of this promotion and have until 19 February to make any bookings they need before the promotion is opened up to the general public. If you’re reading this, want to take part but aren’t a Club Carlson member you can join for free via this link.

  • Non-Club Carlson members receive a 20 or 25% discount, depending on the hotel
  • Club Carlson members receive a 30% discount. To receive the Offer as a Club Carlson member, you must be logged into your Club Carlson account during the booking process.
  • Club Carlson members are eligible to earn 2,500 bonus points per stay completed during the Offer related stay in addition to the standard twenty points per U.S. dollar spent on Club Carlson eligible stays.

Thoughts

The Carlson message that I received about this offer indicated that “”over 500 properties” are participating in this promotion so, as Carlson Rezidor has well over 1,000 properties in its portfolio, I’m left to assume that a large number of properties have opted out….and that’s poor.

There are number of other things worth keeping in mind when considering this promotion:

  • The regular Club Carlson website does not show the Dream Deals promotion rates (at the time of writing) – use the promotion page HERE
  • You’ll be booking a pre-paid non-refundable rate so this isn’t much use to those whose plans may change.
  • If you already have a booking it will not benefit from this promotion (the rules specifically exclude existing reservations) so, if your booking is flexible and if the math is in your favor, it may be worth cancelling your existing reservation and re-booking.
  • You cannot book a room in this promotion for someone else (I have no idea why not) – the rules insist that the booking is made in the name of the credit card holder.
  • I value Club Carlson points at $0.004 each so the 2,500 points bonus is equivalent to a $10 rebate per stay

  • The 30% discount isn’t applied to the cheapest rate you can find at various Carlson properties so the true discount will not necessarily be the full 30%. Take this example of the 5* Mayfair Hotel in London where the cheapest available rate (for a randomly selected date) is $403….

….while the Dream Deal rate is $323:

In this instance the discount is approximately 20% and not the 30% the promotion may lead you to believe that you’ll be getting.

Bottom Line

The 2,500 bonus points may make a nice effective rebate on 1-night stays but shouldn’t make a while lot of difference to any decisions you have to make.

Make sure you check what discount you’re getting at the property you select as it’s unlikely to be the full 30%.

While this promotion probably isn’t good enough to warrant any new bookings you weren’t going to make anyway and while it’s probably also not good enough to tempt anyone into changing any reservations made with other chains, if you were planing a Carlson stay this could be a nice bonus.
