The Conrad Maldives is one of Hilton’s more aspirational properties and tends to get quite a bit of attention when people start discussing where they like to spend their Hilton Honors points balances.

If you’re not a Hilton loyalist there’s not much reason for you to know very much about this resort but I’m prepared to bet that a lot of people have seen the following picture somewhere before:

This is a picture of the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant that’s part of the Conrad Maldives and the image is one that’s used time and time again whenever someone writes about the property or a Hilton Honors points sale.

Let’s face it, it’s not every day you get to dine underwater with fish swimming above you…the image sticks in the mind.

Well, it looks like we’ll soon have a few more undersea images to reproduce over and over again as the Conrad Maldives has announced that it will soon offer an undersea residence.

Due to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year the new residence will be called “Muraka” (which means coral in the local language) and will offer “an intimate and immersive experience of one of the Earth’s most breathtaking marine environments“.

There will only be one such residence available at the Conrad Maldives, it will be set over two levels and will sleep up to nine guests.

The undersea section of the residence offers a king size bedroom….

……and spiral staircase that leads to the upper level.

The undersea bedroom floor is five meters (16.4 feet) below sea level and has been designed to offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding marine environment.

The upper level features a king-size bedroom…..

…..a bathroom powder room, gym, butler’s quarters, private security quarters, integrated living room, kitchen, bar and dining area.

The upper level also contains an additional twin-size bedroom and bathroom, which offers an ocean-facing bathtub:

As if that wasn’t enough the residence will also offer two outdoor decks – one which faces west and which captures the sunset and the other which faces east (to capture the sunrise) and which comes complete with an infinity swimming pool (in case the tranquil lagoons are a bit too much effort).

Thoughts

I can’t imagine that this residence will be bookable with points (or that there are all that many people out there with enough points to book it if it was!) and I dread to think what the nightly rate will be…but what a concept!

Presumably there wouldn’t be all that much to see at night-time as illuminating the water around the residence would just stop guests from being able to sleep (I can’t see any blinds in the renderings) but during the day time the views should be fantastic.

With not that much to see at night I think I would prefer to sleep in the king room on the upper deck and enjoy the sunrise/sunset on the outside decks….but I can imagine spending quite a bit of time in the living area on the lower level.

Any thoughts on how much this will cost per night? I’ll start off the guessing with $10,000/night in low season 🙂
