UPDATE 21 October 2017: Detroit – Amsterdam schedule now added

Delta has just announced that it will add its new Airbus A350 (complete with new Delta One suites) to two new routes in 2018 and one of those routes will see Delta’s first A350 service to Europe.

From 31 March 2018 Delta says it will operate an A350 on its Detroit – Amsterdam route on the following schedule:

DL132 DTW 16:23 – 05:55+1 day AMS (Daily)
DL133 AMS 09:20 – 11:48 DTW (Daily)

The aircraft that is being replaced is an Airbus A330-300 so there are a few things will change:

  • The number of Delta One seats on the flight in question will drop from 34 to 32….but the seats will be significantly better.
  • Delta’s new Premium Economy product (Delta Premium Select) will be available on this route for the first time – there will be 40 Delta Premium Select seats.
  • The number of Economy Class seats will increase from 219 to 226

As well as adding the A350 to the Amsterdam route Delta will also add the new aircraft to its Detroit – Shanghai service from 19 April 2018.

The A350 will be replacing a 777-200LR that currently operates the route and, barring any schedule changes, these will be the flight timings:

DL583 DTW 16:05 – 18:55+1 day PVG (Tue, Thu & Sun)
DL583 DTW 16:38 – 18:55+1 day PVG (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat)

DL582 PVG 11:45 – 14:02 DTW (Tue, Thu & Sun)
DL582 PVG 11:45 – 13:55 DTW (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat)

Note: The A350 will operate this route on alternate days until 17 May 2018 at which point it will go daily.

This aircraft swap will see the Detroit – Shanghai route have the following changes:

  • The number of Delta One seats will decrease by 5 (to 32) but the seats should be a lot better
  • Delta’s new Premium Economy product (Delta Premium Select) will be available on this route for the first time – there will be 40 Delta Premium Select seats.
  • The number of Economy Class seats will increase from 218 to 226
  • The seat width in Economy Class will drop by 0.5″ to 18″
