The reason why I found myself a loyal American Airlines flyer is because when I moved to Los Angeles American Airlines was the one carrier that could offer me most (if not all) the routes I wanted to fly with the minimum amount of inconvenience.

Since then however Delta has been on the rise in LA and, following an enormous terminal move and update, the airline is now adding yet more international flights to its LA route network.

Not only is Delta expanding its international network out of LA but it’s also adding multiple other services out of New York, Atlanta and Detroit.

Delta’s New Los Angeles Routes

From 16 June 2018 Delta will operate two new non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Europe using its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

Los Angeles – Paris (CDG)

3x/week service on the following schedule:

DL156 LAX 12:00 – 07:55+1 day CDG (Tue, Thu & Sat)
DL157 CDG 15:15 – 18:25 LAX (Wed, Fri & Sun)

Delta’s New JFK Routes

From 24 May 2018 Delta will operate a new non-stop flight between New York JFK and the Azores. This route will operate on a seasonal basis.

Dela is also adding a year-round service between New York JFK and Lagos, Nigeria from 24 March 2018.

Delta’s New Detroit Flight

This isn’t so much a new service as it is a new flight – From 16 May 2018 Delta will operate a third daily roundtrip service between Detroit and Paris CDG.

Detroit – Paris (CDG)

New daily service on the following schedule (no mention of whether this is to be seasonal or year-round)

DL99 CDG 13:10 – 16:10 DTW (Daily)

Thoughts

As an Angeleno clearly the new routes from LA excite me the most….but there’s quite a bit else on offer here too (I had no idea a US carrier would fly to the Azores).

As Delta points out, the routes to Europe have been times to allow easy connections to Delta’s SkyTeam partners (Air France/KLM) and, looking at when flights arrive and depart, it seems like customers will have a lot of options.

At the time of writing these routes/flights don’t appear to have been loaded into the reservations system but, with a bit of luck, there will be some reasonably priced award space on at least one or two of these routes.
