A round-up of various pieces of Delta news that have been released over the past week including news of the latest changes to come at Los Angeles’ LAX, the agreement struck with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for the redevelopment of LaGuardia and news on route and aircraft changes to/from London Heathrow.

Delta & Partners Moving Terminals At LAX

Delta has announced that it has started work on its 7-year plan to “modernize, upgrade and connect Terminals 2 and 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)”.

Last week the airport commissioners at LAX approved a lease that will see Delta move from its current homes in LAX Terminals 5 & 6 into terminals 2 & 3 in a $1.9bn redevelopment project. Delta will be joined in the new facility by Virgin Australia & Virgin Atlantic (both moving from the Tom Bradley International Terminal) as well as AeroMexico (already a resident of Terminal 2).

In continuation with the theme of linking Delta with all its partners at LAX, the redevelopment project will include an airside connection to the Tom Bradley International terminal allowing easier connections with airlines such as Air France, KLM, Alitalia, China Southern and China Eastern.

According to the press release:

Once remodeled, the new space will provide all the amenities that Delta’s customers have come to expect at LAX, including a private Delta One check-in lounge, new Delta Sky Clubs, fast check-in for Delta Shuttle services, and an integrated in-line baggage system. The facility will offer convenient passenger flows, sufficient gate-area seating, and a world-class concession program in partnership with Westfield Corporation.

The first stage of the project will see Delta invest $350m to redevelop the gates and amenities in Terminals 2 & 3 as well helping to relocate the airlines that currently operate out of those terminals into Terminals 5 & 6.

In a statement given to AUBT Delta Air Lines Vice President Ranjan Goswani said that he expects the new terminals will “probably open in the April-May timeframe, definitely in Q2“.

It should be noted that all the redevelopment work is still subjecr

Delta Will Partner With PANYNJ On Redevelopment of LaGuardia

It’s been a busy “airport redevelopment” news week for Delta as, on top of the LAX announcement, the airline confirmed that it will be working with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to replace Terminals C & D at New York’s LaGuardia airport.

According to the press release:

Delta’s new terminal at LGA will consist of 37 gates located on four concourses connected by a centralized check-in lobby, security checkpoint, and baggage claim. Of the 37 gates, 33 will have access to dual taxi lanes, which will greatly improve airfield efficiency, resulting in reduced taxi time to and from the gate before take-off and after landing. The construction will commence as soon as possible, following regulatory approvals and final lease negotiations.

As far as features that flyer will appreciate go, the new terminal facility will include:

  • A new, expanded, Delta Sky Club complete with Sky Deck
  • Larger gate areas with more seating to tackle overcrowding
  • Wider concourses to aid the flow of foot traffic
  • Direct access from the terminal to the parking facility
  • Improved drop off/pick up areas
  • Curbside check-in bypass leading directly to the security checkpoint
