There’s a small points bonanza going on at the moment and for those interested in Avios, Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Club Carlson Gold points there are some very good opportunities to earn bonus points without much effort.

Double Avios At The British Airways Shopping Portals

Just like the major US Airlines British Airways offers you the chance to earn more loyalty points when you do your everyday shopping but, unlike the US airlines, BA actually has two shopping portals – one in the US and one in the UK (one link for both).

Both of BA’s shopping portals are currently offering a Double Avios promotion which runs through to 8 October (Sunday).

The terms and conditions of the promotion refer to “select retailers” but, as far as I can see, all major retailers are offering double Avios through Sunday.

Be aware that store like Staples specify that no rewards are offered for gift card purchases so don’t expect to stock up on Ultimate Rewards points (with a Chase Ink credit card) and Avios.

Earn Up To 4 Ultimate Rewards Points With Mobile Payments

Chase is sending out emails to customers advertising a promotion which does not appear to be targeted….and it’s a pretty good promotion too.

Through 4 November Chase is offering 1 bonus Ultimate Rewards point on every dollar spent via Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay and the bonus comes on top of any category bonus you may earn too.

The promotion doesn’t work with the Chase Freedom cards but if you have one of the 3 Chase Sapphire Cards you’re good to go.

Sadly this isn’t a promotion we can game as bonus points are only being awarded on the first $1,500 spent in the promotion period….but that’s still a potential 1,500 Ultimate Rewards Points you wouldn’t have earned otherwise.

This promotion essentially means that the Chase Sapphire Reserve card will earn 4 points/dollar on travel & dining spend made through a mobile payment gateway and 2 points/dollar in all other categories…and that’s pretty good.

Don’t forget that Delta has allowed customers to pay for flights via Apple Pay since 2015 (just be careful not to accidentally buy a ticked as I did!) so that could really help some readers to max out this promotion.

Double Club Carlson Points At Hotels & Gas Stations

Club Carlson is offering a decent bonus for those of us still holding a Club Carlson Visa card (I’m still debating whether I should keep mine) and it runs through the end of the year.

The bulk of the promotion focuses on double points for staying at Carlson properties….

Earn Double Points when paying with your Club Carlson Visa® for hotel stays at Radisson®Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza®, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson SM and Park Inn® by Radisson hotels

…but you also earn double points with rentals from Avis and Budget and for gas purchase through 31 December 2017 too.

I prefer to use my Chase Sapphire card for car rentals as the insurance you get with that card is excellent but the gas option is interesting.

I’m reasonably sure that the credit card companies and Carlson can’t tell the difference between a payment for actual gas and a payment for anything else you may choose to buy at a gas station (hint: gift cards) so there should be scope to get some easy bonus Carlson points if that’s what you’re in the market for.

Below are the earning rates for each of the various Club Carlson Visa cards so if you double those rates you’ll see the potential earnings through the end of the year (click to enlarge):

I value Carlson Gold points somewhere around 0.4 cents each so, if you have the Premier Rewards Visa card, the promotion would see you earning 20 points/dollar spent at Carlson properties which is essentially an 8% rebate on your booking.
