If there’s one thing that I enjoy most in the miles and points world it’s the opportunity to earn points for no outlay and very little of my time. If you place a value on your time this is as close as we ever get to truly free stuff in this hobby and who doesn’t like free stuff?

Marriott has been dabbling with way of rewarding members for sharing things on social media  for some time but, a few months back, it reinvigorated its efforts and offered the following (all of which are still available):

  • 250 Marriott Rewards Points for connecting your Twitter account to your Marriott Rewards account
  • 250 Marriott Rewards Points for connecting your Instagram account to your Marriott Rewards account
  • 250 Marriott Rewards Points for connecting your Instagram account to your Marriott Rewards account

Once those accounts have been linked you can then earn the following easy points:

  • 125 Marriott Rewards Points for following Marriott Rewards on Twitter
  • 125 Marriott Rewards Points for following Marriott Rewards on Instagram

In total that’s 1,000 Marriott Rewards points for really not much effort at all.

I singed up for all of these and then, if I’m being completely honest, I forgot all about Marriott’s obsession with social media….until a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago I noticed that if you retweeted something from the Marriott Rewards account and added the hashtag #RewardsPoints, Marriott would deposit 50 Rewards Points into your account almost immediately.

That was easy….but it was hardly a life changing number of points and I really didn’t want my followers to get inundated by my Marriott retweets as I shamelessly hunted for easy Rewards points. So that was the end of that.

Then came this past Sunday and I noticed something new.

Marriott had another social media promotion running and this one was worth paying a lot more attention to.

All you had to do was answer a question, include #RewardsPoints in your reply and you’d earn 1,000 Rewards Points….and you didn’t even have to know the answer! You could see who was providing the correct answer on Twitter and simply copying someone else’s correct reply would still earn you the points 🙂

The next time I checked my Marriott Rewards account there were the points:

For 50 points per tweet I wasn’t all that interested but at 1,000 points/tweet I was suddenly very attentive!

It would appear as if Marriott plans on running one of these 1,000 point questions every Sunday throughout the football season:

Every Sunday during the NFL season, answer trivia on Twitter from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT to earn Marriott Rewards® points.

With 17 regular weeks, a wild card round, a divisional round, the conference championships and the Super Bowl I make that a total of 21,000 easy Marriott Rewards points on offer.

If you’re late to the party and you’ve missed a couple of weeks that’s still 19,000 Marriott Rewards points for doing not a lot at all.

What You Need To Know

  • The full terms and conditions for the #RewardsPoints promotion is here.
  • You can connect your social media accounts to Marriott Rewards via this page here.
  • A maximum of 45,000 points per Marriott Rewards account can be earned each calendar year through #RewardsPoints

When I went to link my Twitter account to Marriott Rewards I wasn’t all that comfortable with the wording I saw on the left of the screen….

….but the wording on the right appears to negate my major concerns.

Different people will have different opinions on what this all means so make sure you’re comfortable with what you’re agreeing to before you sign up.

Bottom Line

I’ve put a reminder in my calendar to remind me to check Twitter ever Sunday (at some point between 1 pm and 8pm ET) and to bank myself an easy 1,000 Marriott Rewards Points.

Using my valuation of $0.005/ Rewards Point I’m earning $5 for around 60 seconds work (includes switching on my computer, logging in, checking the right answer and the sending a tweet) and that’s the sort of Math I enjoy.

Make sure you log on to Twitter this coming Sunday and join in the free points bonanza.
