It’s interesting to watch as various credit card issuers work harder and harder to get us, the consumers, to use digital payment technology. In the first quarter of this year the Chase Freedom credit card offered 5 points/dollar for all spending through all the popular digital payment platforms and in the second quarter its offering 5 points/dollar for payments made through Chase Pay.

Now Amex Is getting in on the action.

Between now and 17 May 2018 holders of Amex cards that earn Membership Rewards points can earn bonus points for shopping at 15 participating merchants (below) and checking out using Amex Express Checkout when it comes to paying.

Amex is offering 2 bonus membership points for every dollar spent at these 15 retailers for a total of 3 Membership rewards points per dollar.

I value Membership Rewards Points at around 1.5 cents each so this is an effective rebate of 4.5% on all purchases from the participating merchants.

Ensuring you get the points couldn’t be simpler. Just make sure you use the Amex Express Checkout option when it comes to pay…..

…and complete your transaction.

As well as the usual email confirmation from the retailer you’ll also get a confirmation email from Amex so you’ll know the transaction has processed as intended.

Two bonus membership points per dollar probably isn’t enough to warrant making any purchases you weren’t already planning to make but if, like me, you were already planning on buying something that one of these retailers sells this is a nice bonus.

Remember: Before purchasing anything through one of the participating retailers make sure you compare prices elsewhere too – the bonus points are only a real bonus if you’re not overpaying for your item in the first place.
