Emirates operates 3 daily flights between Dubai and Frankfurt and, as things stand, one of those flights is operated by an Emirates Boeing 777 aircraft while the other two flights are operated by the A380s that are now almost synonymous with the airline.

What this means in practice is that two of the 3 daily flights offer very good Business Class seats while the third (the 777) offers a sub-par, pitiful excuse for a premium Business Class cabin..

One of the biggest misconceptions in travel is that Emirates offers some of the best premium cabins in the air when the truth is some way off that.

The Emirates A380s may well offer some of the more lauded premium cabins going (although I find them too gaudy) but the offering on the 777s includes seats that don’t lie horizontal to the ground, seats which don’t offer all-aisle access and a cabin with 7-across seating (i.e there’s a middle seat in Business Class).

It’s woeful.

Admittedly Emirates will be fitting new Business Class seats to its 777 aircraft from next year but, although these seats will actually be true lie-flat seats, the cabin will still offer 7-across seating and will not offer aisle access from all of the seats….and that’s not premium at all!

The good news for travelers to/from Frankfurt is that from 1 January 2018 Emirates will be replacing the 777 that operates between Dubai and Frankfurt with an A380….so whichever flight you now catch you’ll have the better of Emirates’ cabin offerings.

The schedule will look like this:

EK043 DXB 03:20 – 07:35 FRA 388 **New A380 service**
EK045 DXB 08:40 – 12:45 FRA 388
EK047 DXB 14:35 – 18:40 FRA 388

EK044 FRA 09:40 – 19:00 DXB 388 **New A380 service**
EK046 FRA 14:30 – 23:45 DXB 388
EK048 FRA 20:30 – 05:55+1 day DXB 388

In further good news this now means that travelers who wish to get into Frankfurt early enough to get to morning meetings and to have a full day’s work no longer have to settle for the disappointing 777 Business Class cabin – the comfort of the A380 should hep passengers arrive considerably more rested.
