One of the more common misconceptions amongst those not immersed in the world of travel is that Emirates offers great premium cabin products throughout its fleet – it does not.

The airline’s business class cabin on most of its 777 aircraft is actually pretty poor with 7-across seating throughout and with no direct aisle access for half of the cabin. The fact that not even an airline like American still offers such a cabin configuration on its wide-body aircraft should tell you just how antiquated the Emirates layout is and why Business Class flyers on the Hamburg – Dubai route will be delighted with the news that was announced yesterday.

From 29 October 2018 Emirates is replacing the 777-300ER aircraft which operates one of its two daily flights to/from Hamburg with a 3-class Airbus A380.

Here’s the planned schedule per ExpertFlyer:

EK59 DXB 08:50 – 12:55 HAM (Daily 777-300ER service)
EK61 DXB 15:00 – 19:05 HAM (Daily A380 service)

EK60 HAM 15:20 – 00:50+1 day DXB (Daily 777-300ER service)
EK62 HAM 21:00 – 06:20+1 day DXB (Daily A380 service)

Note: On 29 October it will be flights EK59/60 which offer A380 service but, after that, the service reverts to the one published above.

What this means in practice is that this route’s premium cabin travelers will now have 9 more First Class suites and 40 more Business Class seats on offer.

More importantly, the Business Class cabin on offer on the Emirates A380 is vastly superior to the one offered on the 777 with direct access to the aisle for all passengers and no dreaded middle seat to avoid.

On the A380 there’s no need for passengers to clamber over one another to reach the aisle, solo travelers can enjoy considerably more privacy than on the 777 and the feeling of space is palpable despite the number of people in the cabin.

For those who like the little extras in life the A380 also offers in-flight showers for the First Class cabin and an onboard bar for First and Business Class passengers.

Bottom Line

This is very good news for Business Class travelers to/from Hamburg and the introduction of larger First Class and Business Class cabins should make awards easier to find – that a win for a lot of people.

There’s actually even more good news coming for Emirates fans flying between Dubai and Hamburg but there will be more on that in in this post HERE.
