At the beginning of every month Flying Blue releases discounted awards for Economy and Business Class travel on Air France and KLM flights. The awards are advertised as offering “up to 50% off” but the rewards most will probably want to book are usually discounted by around 25%.

The October Flying Blue Promo awards are now out and there are a few that look interesting.

  • Paris Orly – New York JFK (and vice versa): Business Class 93,750 miles (roundtrip)

Paris – Vancouver for 93,750 miles roundtrip is easily the best deal here…especially as the Air France aircraft on this route is a 777-200 with the airline’s newer Business Class installed.

New York JFK to Paris Orly isn’t bad for under 100,000 miles but you have to bear in mind that Flying Blue loves to add surcharges to its awards.

Flying Blue Caribbean Promo Awards

There’s only one route offering Promo Awards for the Caribbean this month and it’s for travel between Paris Orly and Cayenne in French Guiana…but the promo is pretty good:

75,000 miles for roundtrip Business Class is excellent for a 8hr – 9hr flight (Air France offers its new Business Class product on this route) and the extra 15,000 miles on top of Premium Economy would definitely be worth it.

30,000 miles for Economy Class roundtrip could be a good use of miles too…although it will depend on how large the taxes and fees are that the airline adds to the cost of the award.

Flying Blue Asia Promo Awards

The Promo Awards for travel between Europe and Asia aren’t exactly the most inspiring and are almost all for Premium Economy Travel.

  • Europe – Beijing/Guangzhou/Hong Kong/Shanghai (and vice versa): Roundtrip Premium Economy 120,000 miles

The stand out award in for this region of the globe is this one:

  • Europe – Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) roundtrip Premium Economy for 80,000 miles.

Vietnam is a country I’m particularly keen to visit so this award is definitely of interest to me.

Other Promo Awards

Flying Blue offers Promo Awards to all regions of world but, having looked through what’s on offer, there really isn’t much else that stands out.

All the intra-Europe awards are only reduced by 20%, the three awards to the Middle East are only 25% off and are for travel to Amman, Cairo and Tehran and the three Promo Awards to/from Africa are all for Economy Class travel to cities most will have never head of (although they are 50% off).

Bottom Line

The highlight of this month’s Promo Awards is the Paris – Vancouver Business Class award for under 100,000 miles. Yes, you’ll have between €400 and €600 of taxes and fees added to your award because that’s just what Flying Blue does…but that’s still not terrible value.

If you’re based in Europe and looking to escape to the Caribbean then Cayenne may be an option and, at 75,000 miles for a roundtrip Business Class award, that’s truly excellent value.
