Hilton launched its Curio Collection in June 2014 in an attempt to compete better at the boutique end of the hotel spectrum. The collection sits in the same space as the likes of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and possibly even IHG’s Kimpton properties. The 45+ properties in the Curio Collection are dotted across the world and are about to see a significant number of new joiners to the brand.

Hilton says that it’s Curio Hotels are all “one-of-a-kind” and this is achieved that by allowing the properties a considerable amount of leeway when it comes to defining who and what they are.

This makes the Curio properties a little more interesting than a run-of-the-mill Hilton/Marriott/Hyatt/IHG property so it’s good to hear that more Curio Collection properties are on the way.

Iceland

As Iceland grows as a tourist destination the capital Reykjavik is rapidly running out of hotel rooms to house everyone passing through.

Having WOW Air feeding low-cost traffic between the US and Europe through the Icelandic capital as well as numerous advertising campaigns promoting Iceland as a destination, have seen tourist numbers sky-rocket….so it’s good to see a Curio property coming to Reykjavik.

Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton

The Reykjavik Konsultat Hotel is built inside a 1900’s department store in the “old west side” of the Icelandic capital (it sits on the same block as the Radisson Blue 1919 hotel).

Per the hotel:

It’s a quick walk from our city center hotel to Iceland Parliament, Harpa Concert Hall, the Laugavegur main shopping street, and top restaurants and nightlife.

The hotel houses just 50 “boutique” room and suites all of which have been recently renovated with modern amenities and decorated in a “uniquely Icelandic” style.

Along with a 49-inch HDTV and complimentary WiFi, comforts include a mini-refrigerator, espresso machine, tea kettle and laptop-sized safe. Suites offer more space and a separate living area – treat yourself to a Diplomat Suite, a corner room with a beautiful private terrace.

The property is presently accepting reservations for arrivals from 29 March 2018 and, for more information, check out the hotel’s website (here).
