JetBlue has announced that, in keeping with its recent focus on “better meeting the needs of coast-to-coast travelers”, it will be launching new non-stop services from the East Coast to destinations in Southern California and Colorado and a new non-stop service from Southern California to Montana too.

As well as adding the new services JetBlue plans to….

  • “Refine” its Long Beach schedule to “better meet the needs of the market” – includes adding a 2nd daily flight from Boston from 5 September.
  • Increase service to Burbank (CA) – includes new service from Boston and a 2nd daily flight from New York JFK
  • Add more frequencies to existing cross-country routes
  • Expand seasonal service to Palm Springs including bringing its Mint suites to the route for the Holiday season.

Here’s what JetBlue has had to say about the announcements:

We continue to focus on leveraging the popularity of our transcon service, which is producing excellent results for our business

As we advance our West Coast strategy, we are bringing more flying options that our customers want and are growing our brand in hot new destinations that are thrilled to have JetBlue as a new option for travel.

New Jet Blue Routes

Ontario, California

From 5 September 2018 JetBlue will become the only airline to offer non-stop service between the East Coast and Ontario when it commences operations out of New York JFK on the following schedule:

JBU355 JFK 19:12 – 22:39 ONT (Daily)
JBU354 ONT 23:59 – 08:24+1 day JFK (Daily)

Ontario becomes the 10th airport in California to be served by JetBlue and will be a good option for those living in East LA (or further out).

There is no indication in the press release that this is to be a seasonal service (I can’t see why it would be) so I’m left to assume that this route will be available year-round.

Flights are now on sale from $99 one-way which is an incredible price for what is essentailly a transcon flight.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado

JetBlue will launch two non-stop routes from the East Coast and one non-stop route from the West Coast to Steamboat Springs for winter 2018/19.

Beginning 15 December 2018 JetBlue will offer twice weekly non-stop service between Boston and Steamboat Springs on the following schedule:

JBU1227 BOS 09:14 – 12:16 HDN (Wed & Sat)
JBU1228 HDN 13:11 – 19:17+1 day BOS (Wed & Sat)

Seats on this route are on sale from $149 one-way

From 15 December 2018 there will be a 1/week service between Ft. Lauderdale and Steamboat Springs that operated on Saturdays on the following schedule:

JBU45 FLL 07:31 – 10:27 HDN (Sat)
JBU48 HDN 11:22 – 17:20 day FLL (Sat)

Seats on this route are on sale from $159 one-way

Lastly, JetBlue will launch a twice weekly service between Long Beach and Steamboat on 15 December 2018. This is the current planned schedule:

JBU820 LGB 11:14 – 14:15 ONT (Wed & Sat)
JBU821 ONT 15:00 – 16:14 LGB (Wed & Sat)

Seats on this route are on sale from $129 one-way

It’s no surprise to see all these routes starting up right before the holiday season kicks in and just as the skiing season really starts to get going. I doubt there will be much traffic originating in Steamboat Springs but there’s never a shortage of people on the East Coast (or SoCal) looking to go the other way for a ski-break.

Bozeman, Montana

This will be another seasonal route for JetBlue as it offers service to Montana for the very first time.

According to the airline Bozeman is one of the busiest airports in the Northwest and is “the choice for travelers bound for Bozeman, Big Sky and Southwest Montana, and serves as the year-round gateway to two Yellowstone National Park entrances“.

That should make this route pretty popular for those based in Southern California.

Here’s the published schedule:

JBU10 LGB 10:48 – 14:27 BZN (Wed & Sat)
JBU9 BZN 15:12 – 16:51 LGB (Wed & Sat)

Seats on this route are on sale from $139 one-way
