KLM already offers a twice daily service between Amsterdam and New York JFK but, in the latest schedule update, the Dutch flag carrier has added a 3rd flight on this route for the summer 2018 season.

From 26 March 2018 KLM will roster a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to operate a 6x/week service between Amsterdam and New York JFK on the following schedule:

KL645 AMS 14:30 – 16:30 JFK (Mon – Sat)
KL646 JFK 18:30 – 07:50+1 day AMS (Mon – Sat)

During the peak summer season this will see KLM operating a total of 20 weekly flights on the Amsterdam – New York JFK route.

The KLM 787-9 Dreamliner offers the following cabin options:

  • 30 Business Class Seats
  • 48 Economy Comfort Seats
  • 216 Economy Class seats

The Business Class cabin offers a 1-2-1 seat layout set out in the hugely popular reverse herringbone style (definitely a firm favorite of mine)…..

In Economy Class things aren’t that great as, although KLM offers an “Economy Comfort” cabin, there is no true Premium Economy offering.

Throughout Economy Comfort and regular Economy Class the aircraft offers 9-across seating giving flyers just 17.5″ of seat width…which is par for the course on transatlantic flights nowadays.

The seat pitch in the Economy Comfort zone is a pretty good 35″ while in the regular Economy Class section it’s down to just 31″.

Put simply, if you’ve flown BA Economy Class you’ll know what KLM Economy Class is like as the seat dimensions are identical.

The KLM 787-9 comes equipped with overwater wi-fi and all the seats in the aircraft have good-size touch-screen entertainment screens (11″ in Economy Class & 16″ in Business Class) so viewing the entertainment on offer shouldn’t be an issue.
