Malaysia Airlines has launched a couple of promotions for travel on its London to Kuala Lumpur route – one is a simple discounted Economy Class promotion which looks quire attractive while the other is a discount on award travel between the two cities which will probably be the most interesting of the two promotions if you have a stash of Enrich points.

Malaysia Airlines Economy Class Sale

malaysia-399gbp

Apparently Malaysia airlines has a new sponsorship deal with Liverpool football club and to “celebrate” the new union the airline is offering discounted Economy Class flights from….London.

Leaving aside the fact that I can’t see a link between a cheap fare from London and a sponsorship of a sports team from a different city, £399 for a roundtrip flight to Kuala Lumpur isn’t bad at all – the regular price appears to be in the £480 – £490 range.

The Flights

No layovers anywhere and the Malaysia Airlines flights are on the airline’s Airbus A380 aircraft.

One bonus of flying in the Malaysia Airlines A380 is that the Economy Class cabin is slightly more comfortable than a lot of other airlines you may fly. The seats are 18″ wide (generous by today’s standards) and the seat pitch is 32″ (not fantastic but better than 31″ which you’ll find on BA).

Don’t forget that because Malaysia Airlines is a member of oneworld you can credit your flights to the British Airways Executive Club. You’re not going to earn much as its a deeply discounted Economy Class fare that’s being booked but a round trip will earn 3,278 Avios and 40 Tier Points and they all help!

Malaysia Airlines Award Sale

70-pc-discount-awards

Malaysia Airlines is offering the following discounts on award travel between London and Kuala Lumpur for awards booked by 16 October 2016.

  • First Class – 70% discount
  • Business Class – 55% discount
  • Economy Class – 30% discount

And this is what the award costs look like before and after the discounts are applied:

Unfortunately Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich program isn’t an Amex transfer partner (in either the UK or the US) and neither is it a transfer partner for Starwood…so you’ll either have to have an existing Malaysia Airlines Enrich balance or a stash of US Citi ThankYou points (which convert to Enrich at a 1:1 ratio) if you want to take advantage of this.

Personally I wouldn’t use Citi ThankYou points for travel on Malaysia Airlines as, for the time being, I think they’re more valuable when redeemed for American Airlines flights at 1.6 cents each or as a transfer to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program.
