Carrying on with my attempt to catch up with all the hotel promotions that were announced while I was traveling here are the details of the Marriott Fall promotion.

Marriott has announced details its fall 2016 promotion and, to no one’s surprise, it’s called MegaBonus….just like every other Marriott promotion in recent years (originality doesn’t appear to be a big priority at Marriott Rewards). The promotion runs for stays between 15 September 2016 and 15 January 2017 and registration is open now.

Details Of Marriott’s Fall 2016 MegaBonus Promotion

  • Register by 15 December 2016
  • Choose your offer (details below)
  • Earning will occur for stays or nights made between 15 September 2016 and 15 January 2017, at participating Marriott properties.
  • Retroactive stays will not count towards this promotion.
  • Award nights do not count towards this promotion
  • Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member’s nights or stay.
  • Ritz-Carlton stays will count towards this promotion.
  • Rooms booked through most third party online retailers and select travel agency bookings are ineligible to earn for this promotion.

Unlike past MegaBonus promotions (like the dismal one that appeared earlier in the year) this MegaBonus isn’t tailored to individual guests in any way….there’s a simple choice to be made:

You simply choose which promotion you think will suit you best and register.

I chose the 5,000 points after two stays option because I’m in the middle of trying to requalify for Hyatt Diamond status  and I already have Marriott Platinum status sown up for another year….so I have little incentive to push any sizeable number of my hotel says in Marriott’s direction.

How Good Is Marriott’s Fall MegaBonus Promotion?

Let’s cut to the chase…this isn’t really going to excite too many people is it? 🙂

Still, there are a couple of good things about this MegaBonus.

  1. Based on the link that Marriott supplies in the terms & conditions it looks as if all Marriott properties are participating in the promotion.
  2. Unlike past promotions this one throws a bone to the non-road warriors amongst us – 5,000 points for 2 nights isn’t terrible (although it’s also nothing to get excited about) and it beats the 2,000 points after two nights that the last promotion offered.

I value Marriott Rewards points at around 0.7 cents each so 5,000 points (the first offer) is equivalent to a $35 rebate – not great but better than nothing if you we’re planing on a Marriott stay anyway.

The second offer is the one that makes the most sense for the heavy traveler but the numbers don’t exactly look that enticing. 10,000 bonus points every 10 nights is an effective rebate of $70 after 10 nights (don’t spend it all at once) and 50 nights will earn you enough for a free night at any top Marriott in the world.

If you travel for business and Marriott is your (or your employer’s) hotel chain of choice then you’ll probably rack up the 50 nights quite easily – although I don’t envy you – so a free night at a top hotel could be seen as a nice bonus for all that traveling…but I suspect you’ll have to pair it up with some points of your own to make it a worthwhile trip

Bottom Line

Marriott’s Fall MegaBonus promotion is an improvement on the last promotion it ran….but that’s not saying very much!

Whether you plan on staying at any Marriott’s in the next few months or not you should sign up for this promotion to ensure you don’t miss out on any points should your plans change.

So far, out of the fall promotions I’ve discussed, my favorite is the Hilton Double Up promotion because it’s simple and relatively easy to rack up some points, for the road warrior the Hyatt More Points/More Play promotion is easily the most lucrative while this Marriott MegaBonus promotion offers the easiest way to a few points for those not planning on spending more than a couple of nights at hotels in the next few months.
