At the beginning of every month the Flying Blue loyalty program releases discounted awards for Economy and Business Class travel on Air France and KLM flights. These “Promo Awards” are advertised as offering “up to 50% off” award travel but, in reality, the rewards most will probably want to book are usually discounted by around 25%.

The February Flying Blue Promo awards have now been published and there are one or two awards that look interesting.

Flying Blue North America Business Class Promo Awards

For reasons best known to Flying Blue some of the North America awards are, at the time of writing, to be found under the “North Africa” heading on the Promo Awards page….so if you can’t find an award I mention try looking there.

These awards aren’t exactly all that exciting but they could be a cost-effective way of getting to North American from Europe or for North American based flyers to head on over to Europe.

KLM serves Edmonton 4x/week in April using an Airbus A330-200. Some KLM A330-200 aircraft only offer an angle-flat Business Class seat so make sure you check the product on offer before you book.

On the Toronto route KLM offers its 747 aircraft and some of these aircraft have the airlines new-ish “world business class” seats which look pretty good.

Flying Blue Caribbean Promo Awards

There are three routes to the Caribbean which offer a Business Class discount in the latest Promo Awards and they are.

Europe – Cayenne (and vice versa)

The stand-out deal here is the one to Cayenne in French Guiana – 75,000 miles for roundtrip Business Class is excellent for a 8hr – 9hr flight and Air France offers its new Business Class product on this route too – that’s a big bonus.

Other Promo Awards

Flying Blue offers Promo Awards to all regions of world but, having looked through what’s on offer, there really isn’t much else that stands out.

All the intra-Europe awards are only reduced by 20%, there’s only one award to Asia and that’s a Premium Economy award to Ho Chi Minh City and there’s only one award to Central or South American and that’s a Premium Economy award to Bogota….so nothing that’s going to get the pulse racing.

Bottom Line

The highlight of this month’s Promo Awards is either the KLM Business Class award between Europe and Toronto  for 93,750 miles or the Air France Business Class award between Europe and Cayenne for just 75,000 miles.

It’s worth noting that Flying Blue will add between €400 and €600 of taxes and fees to the award because Flying Blue can get away with it…but the awards are still pretty good value at these levels.
