Norwegian, the low-cost carrier that appears to scare the heck out of British Airways, has announced that it will add to its routes across the Atlantic from next year. New York (JFK) and Los Angeles are the cities in the US getting the extra services and, considering the popularity of both with leisure travelers, this will be music to the ears of many. Looking at it from another point of view, Angelenos and New Yorkers are about to get four new low-cost routes into three different European cities and none of them are London…so there shouldn’t be too many taxes inflating the fares.
There have been a few new route announcements from Qatar Airways over the past few month including seasonal services to Pattaya and Chiang Mai as well as year round services to Penang. We've even seen service to Cardiff announced for May 2018. Now there’s yet another new destination on the Qatar Airways route map.
British Airways has announced that it will launch a new seasonal service to the Greek Islands from summer next year and, a little surprisingly, this route will be operated out of London Heathrow (I usually associate Gatwick with BA's short-haul vacation routes).
The airline that so many of us have been hoping will one day fly to Hawaii has finally said that it plans to do exactly that. In an address to employees Southwest CEO Gary Kelly confirmed that the airline plans to operate flights between the continental US and Hawaii from next year.
There were a couple of announcements from BA yesterday that I thought may be of interest to readers in the UK - In 2018 BA will be adding a new summer route to southeastern Spain and those of you in the far north of the UK are about to get a greater number of flights to/from Heathrow.
Air France has announced that it will launch a non-stop service between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Seattle from summer 2018 using its Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
British Airways has been keeping its route planners busy over the past year with new routes to Toronto and Las Vegas out of London Gatwick, flights to Oakland, flights to Ft. Lauderdale and even a new route to Nashville. Now the airline has turned its sights away from the US (at least temporarily) as it announces a new route to the Indian Ocean.
United Airlines has announced four new seasonal services to Europe for summer 2018. The new services will include routes to Porto (Portugal), Reykjavik (Iceland), Zurich (Switzerland) and Edinburgh (Scotland). That's two new destinations and two existing destinations for anyone who's keeping track.
United Airlines has just announced that it plans to commence service between Houston (IAH) and Sydney from early 2018 and, although the aircraft being used doesn't exactly offer a premium product (in any cabin), there are Business Class saver awards available (at the time of writing).
WOW Air, the Iceland-based low-cost carrier, has just announced that it is to add Dallas/Ft Worth to its list of US destinations - look out American Airlines a transatlantic low-cost carrier is coming right for you!
