IHG has announced that it has signed a management agreement to bring the InterContinental brand back to Sri Lanka. The Kingsbury Colombo was an InterContinental property up to approximately 6 years ago so the Sri Lankan capital has been InterContinental-free since then.

The new InterContinental Colombo is scheduled to open in 2019 and will offer 260 regular rooms and 47 suites across 42 floors making it the tallest hotel tower in the city.

The only location information that IHG has offered up is that the property will be “located centrally along Galle Road” but, as Galle Road is quite long that doesn’t really narrow down the location too much.

Here are some of the planned features of the property:

  • 3 km from the city centre
  • 12,000+ sq. ft. of meeting and banqueting space
  • Gym
  • Outdoor Pool
  • Spa
  • “Most rooms” will have uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean
  • 6 dining option including an all-day restaurant and three speciality restaurants.

I’ll post more details of the new InterContinental Colombo as and when IHG provides more information.
