UPDATE: It looks as if this deal may already be done – congratulations to those who had the chance to snap the fares up

I don’t cover all that may Economy Class fares here on TFM but every now and again some appear that just have to be mentioned – this is one such occasion.

United has posted a series of roundtrip fares between the US and Auckland with prices starting at an incredible $395. Add to that the fact that the fare is available throughout most of the bookable 2018 calendar and this suddenly becomes a deal that a lot of people should be able to make use of.

The catch?

You have to book today.

Note: This is a fantastic deal so seats may well sell out before the day is out (they may even disappear in hours) so don’t hold back if this is something that works for you.

Headline Fare Rules

  • Travel permitted 12 January – 21 June 2018 & 24 July – 17 September 2018
  • Maximum stay is 12 months
  • Tickets must be issued on/before 27 November 2017

Availability

Sometimes we get cases where, although the fare rules suggest that the fare is available for a broad set of dates, availability isn’t all that great…..that’s not the case here.

Not only is availability fantastic but, for a good number of dates, there also doesn’t seem to be much trouble finding the fare for whatever trip length you like:

Other Cities

The Flight Deal is reporting that good fares to Auckland are available from other cities in the US including:

Roundtrip Economy Class of $410:

  • Seattle
  • Portland
  • Phoenix
  • Santa Ana (Southern California)
  • Dallas
  • San Diego
  • Las Vegas
  • Tucson
  • San Antonio
  • Austin
  • Denver
  • Spokane

Roundtrip Economy Class of $496 is also available from Houston [IAH]

The Flights

The flights from San Francisco are on United’s 777 aircraft….

…and in case anyone is concerned that this is a phantom fare here it is on United.com:

It should be noted that some of the routings requite long stopovers somewhere along the way but considering how much you’re saving on airfare a night at a cheap airport hotel shouldn’t blow too many budgets.

Warning

There is a downside to this fare and that’s that United’s flights to Auckland don’t offer the most spacious of Economy Class cabins. In fact, in the case of the 777 out of San Francisco the cabin is as cramped as they come:

31 inches of legroom and just 17″ of seat width doesn’t sound like something I’d enjoy for a flight of this length so booking an exit row/Economy+ if you possibly can would be a good idea.

Things are better if you find yourself able to get these fares on the 787-9 Dreamliner….

…but I would still aim for an exit row or Economy+ if at all possible.

Bottom Line

These are fantastic fares to a country I love visiting (although the South Island is my favorite part of New Zealand).

If Auckland isn’t for you then don’t forget that you can often get some pretty good low-cost-carrier fares to other parts of New Zealand (Queenstown, Wanaka and Milford Sound have to be seen) or, if you’re lucky, you may even find some good fares to Australia out of Auckland.

The best news is that these fares are available for travel in the southern hemisphere summer and, in my opinion that’s the best time to visit.
