American Express (USA) has loaded some new offers for card holders and there are a couple that stand out as useful for anyone booking travel.

W Hotels – Spend $400 or more, get $80 back

W Hotels Amex Offer

Details:

“Get a one-time $80 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $400 or more on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with W Hotels from 9/15/15 to 12/31/15.”

The Small Print:

  • Reservations must be made online at whotels.com, via the SPG App or by calling 1-877-946-8537
  • Offer only valid at W Hotels in the US & US Territories
  • Offer not valid for stays paid for before or after the promotion start & end dates.
  • Excludes all other Starwood brands
  • Excludes W Residences

I got this offer on 3 of my American Express cards (including my Amex SPG Card) so I could, technically, get up to $240 off $1,200 total spend. However, as anyone who’s been reading this blog probably knows, I’m not exactly a fan of W Hotels – especially when it comes to ones in the US – so I’ll probably be giving this promotion a miss.

Rocketmiles.com – Spend $200 or more, get $50 back

Rocketmiles Amex Offer

Details:

“Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $200 or more online at rocketmiles.com by 10/30/15.”

The Small Print:

  • Valid online only (hopefully this is obvious!)
  • Includes purchases via mobile app.
  • Reservations must be made in USD

I got this offer on 4 of my American Express cards and this is an offer I will be trying to use.

I ran a detailed 6-part series (starting here) in which I compared the three major “air miles for hotel stays” websites – Rocketmiles, Kaligo and Pointshound – and, while Rocketmiles didn’t do too well in the pricing tests, it aced the “most miles on offer” and “most miles per $ spent” tests.

I have a number of stays that I have yet to book so I’ll be checking how Rocketmiles’ prices compare to elsewhere on the web and seeing if I can maximise this Amex offer.

Loading The Offers To Your Card

The problem with loading American Express offers on to your cards is that, once you’ve added an offer to one card, that offer no longer appears available for any other card even if had been loadable before – it simply disappears.

There’s a little trick that you need to use to get round this issue.

Once you have accessed your American Express account online you can only view one card’s offers at a time so, to get around this, this is what you need to do:

  • Open up multiple tabs in your internet browser
  • Open your American Express account on each tab
  • View a different card’s offers in each tab

Now you can add offers to each of your cards without having them disappear once they’ve been loaded.

If you have more than one American Express account login you will need to use more than one type of internet browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome etc…) but the premise will still work.

Different people see different offers in their Amex accounts so let me know if you’ve been offered anything interesting by the good people at American Express 🙂
