Shopping portals can be a very good way of boosting your rewards balances while you go about your regular shopping. If you’re sensible and disciplined (i.e you don’t shop just because you’re earning miles) you can keep the miles rolling in without spending any more than you would have done if the miles hadn’t been on offer.

Now three of the airline shopping portals are all offering users the chance to win a grand prize of 100,000 miles and $2,500 or, if you don’t win that, you could win one of three “first prizes” of 20,000 miles each (how can it be a “first” prize if you didn’t win the main prize?!)

How The Sweepstake Works

  • The sweepstake is available at the following online shopping portals:
  • The sweepstake runs to 11:59pm ET on 29 September 2017.
  • You will automatically receive one entry into the Sweepstakes for creating a free shopping account or for registering for the Sweepstakes if you already have an account.
  • If you agree to receive marketing communications and/or if you do not unsubscribe from email communications if you are already receiving them, you will receive 100 additional entries into the Sweepstakes, so long as you remain opted in as of the end date of the Promotion Period.
  • To earn a further 20 entries in the Sweepstakes visit the shopping portal and make an online qualifying purchase with a single participating merchant where the total cost of the item or items purchased (excluding shipping and taxes) is at least $50. The $50 doesn’t have to be spent in one transaction but must be spent in a singe day (defined as 12:00 a.m. ET through 11:59 p.m. ET)
  • There is no limit on the number of purchases you may make. You may only earn entries for five Qualifying Purchases per Day during the promotion period but each qualifying purchase must be with a different merchant; therefore, there is a maximum of one hundred entries per day through this method. ($50 spent at 5 different merchants = $250 spent for 100 entries).

You can earn further entries into the sweepstakes for free….but it will be a tedious process.

Per the sweepstakes rules:

If you do not wish to opt-in to receive email marketing communications or make a purchase, hand print your name, address, day and evening phone numbers, email address, AAdvantage® account number, and date of birth on a 3″ x 5″ piece of paper and mail it in an envelope with proper postage to [insert relevant address depending on which portal you’re using]. You will receive one hundred (100) entries for each mail-in entry received; each mail-in entry must be sent in a separate envelope. You may mail-in up to nineteen (19) requests (each a separate envelope) during the Promotion Period to receive a total of nineteen hundred (1900) entries. All mail-in entries must be handwritten and must be postmarked by September 29, 2017 and received by October 6, 2017

Thoughts

If you’re only going to enter one of the three sweepstakes I’d go with Alaska Airlines.

American Airlines AAdvantage miles are very hard to use economically thanks to the dearth of premium cabin SAAver awards, United Miles are ok but 100,000 won’t get you a roundtrip Business Class award to any major long-haul destination (if you’re heading east or west) while 100,000 Alaska Miles will get you some nice roundtrip redemptions on Cathay Pacific and even American (subject to award availability).

Good luck!
